LEATHER RESTORATION

Audi RS6 Recaro seat restoration

A twenty-year-old Recaro seat out of an RS6, cracked and faded to grey, stripped back and recoloured rather than replaced.

The job

What came in, and what went out.

Starting condition

Two decades of use had taken the finish off the bolsters and the base. The hide was intact but the colour was gone, the surface was cracking, and it had faded to a flat grey a long way from where it started.

What we did

  1. Seat removed from the car and stripped down on the bench.
  2. Surface cleaned and keyed back so the new colour had something to hold on to.
  3. Colour built up in coats with a spray gun, cured between passes.
  4. Seat rebuilt and refitted.

The result

An even, consistent finish across bolsters, base and headrest, with the grain still visible rather than filled in. The clip runs the whole job start to finish.

This worked because the hide underneath was sound. Where leather has split or the foam has gone, recolouring alone will not fix it, and we would tell you that after seeing the seat.

BEFORE AFTER

The same seat before and after recolouring.
